What is eifs, dafs, & stucco? What are the differences?

EIFS - Exterior Insulation & Finish System

Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) are exterior stucco wall systems that include EPS Insulation Foam. This foam is designed to add additional R-Value to your existing structure giving it more insulation. EIFS is often seen on residential properties to add a unique decorative appearance. EIFS is also very common on commercial storefronts and signage areas. Commercial buildings also benefit greatly from the increase in R-Value provided by this type of wall system. These systems are also great at giving a façade a uniform appearance on an otherwise bumpy surface.

DAFS - Direct-Apply Finish System

Direct-Apply Finish Systems (DAFS) are exterior stucco wall systems that do not require metal lath. These systems are great over block and concrete to give a home or building a new look at an affordable cost! Direct-Apply Finish Systems offers the same finish textures and colors as Exterior Insulation and Finish System. Adding foam shapes, details, and trim can give a very unique look to your façade.

Textures & Colors

Stucco - "Sand & Cement"

Standard Stucco systems are the original "sand and cement" systems. They consist of metal lath and a specialty mix of mortar, portland cement, & lime. These systems require exterior paint to be applied after installation for color and come in only a skip trowel or rough texture.

The Benefits of EIFS

Energy Efficient & Versatile

One of the long-standing measures in figuring energy efficiency is R-Value. It is the measure of your home's thermal resistance, it's ability to keep and maintain heat. The approximate R-Value of a EIFS structure with a 2" foam board is 11.5, as opposed to a bare concrete wall which is rated at 2.5.

EIFS is a versatile facing material that can be applied to almost any surface. Whether your needs are for commercial or residential use, EIFS colors and finishes can be combined and orchestrated to match or accent an existing structure.

Low Cost & Minimal Maintenance

Because EIFS is a durable product, impact-resistant, fire-resistant, breathable and moisture resistant, it is able to be used in all climates, and is an inexpensive alternative to petroleum based products such as vinyl siding. EIFS is also color retentive, by using integral color, the need to paint after application is eliminated.

Aesthetics & Wide Range of Use

EIFS gives limitless potential to any project. In addition to the many finish textures and color options, EIFS accents such as cornices, window box styles and decorative pillar shaping fashions your project as a truly one of a kind architectural work of art. Where curb appeal is an issue for our residential customers, EIFS can be used to achieve any creative vision.
